Incentives

Yesterday we received a letter from a firm of independent financial advisers (one we had not known before) which invited us to introduce our clients to this firm.  The letter said “we will initially share 33% of our fixed percentage fees and a further 10% of our fixed percentage fees for the time they are a client of the accountancy firm”.

This is common practice in many firms – but not for us.

We often work with other professional advisers to help our client, and if a client does not already have such an adviser, we may suggest someone whom we know to have carried out good work for other clients in the past, but we will not knowingly enter any incentive arrangement.
